Merch update and Mystic Knights

So, one of my shipments was heavily delayed due to lack of inventory, and I've had 2 orders cancelled for the same reason (thanks for that KMart). I did get 3 SPD morphers, a crap ton of spin fighters, and a magiphone, but most of my action figures now have to be reordered. In order to still have a post to try to maintain some type of a schedule, I want to see if anyone on the World Wide Weberverse remembers the Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog? It only lasted for a year, but I found it to be extremely enjoyable during its run.

Left to Right: Rowan, Deidre, Angus, Ivar
For those who don't remember the show, it was marketed as a US made "Irish Power Rangers", that revolved around a surprisingly pleasant blend of the Ulster Cycle of Celtic mythology, sentai formuli, and a moral of the week. We have 4 Knights, later joined by a 5th. I don't remember most of the plot lines, but the pilot was a great deal of fun, with four young adults from different classes of society being forced to band together by extenuating circumstances to save (the pink ranger analog) Deidre's father and his kingdom from being taken over by an wicked Sidhe or witch (I can't remember). The costumes were absolutely stunning (mostly, Deidre's sucks).

Clockwise from top-left: Rowan, Ivar, Angus, Logo, Garrett, Deidre

No, by today's standards, the costumes probably wouldn't stand up to criticism, BUT, remember this was an experimental kid's show from the mid-late nineties, when live action kid's programming was already on a steady downfall in both attraction and quality since no one seemed able to write a decent storyline. Add on to the fact that the toys were terrible and not marketed very well, and the show was very expensive to produce.

So far as I know, Saban abandoned a second season (and from the premise, I guess it was a good thing) and gave the budget to the Power Rangers franchise which was starting to come back to popularity after the abysmal Turbo run (see Linkara's review of PR: Lost Galaxy for more info). Bad sequel ideas not withstanding, this show was really fun, and brought me back to the idea of Power Rangers after I abandoned the Power Rangers franchise 8 episodes into Turbo. I really wish I had watched In Space, but the name made me think Power Rangers had really jumped the shark. Turns out I was wrong, whodathunk?

If anybody knows of a decent quality stream somewhere online, please let me know, I'd appreciate it. I'd really like to write up a full review of it.

Toy Hunt

Interweberverse! Here's something to you might be able to help with. I searched for this toy set last year, and couldn't find any of the figures except online. Where were they sold?

Also, while it's on my mind, if anyone out there is handy with a sewing machine, drop me a line! ^______^

Gokaiger episode 12 mini-review

Interweberverse! This season's super sentai is the best tribute to heroes in past seasons I could have hoped for. by the time we hit episode 11, we've have specific tributes to Gaoranger (Power Rangers Wild Force), Dekaranger (SPD), Magiranger (Mystic Force), and Gekiranger (Jungle Fury). The 11th episode started off a two-parter that pays tribute to Shinkenger (PR Samurai). Takeru and crew don't show up, but we do get to see from Kaoru. This was a smart move for a few reasons. First, she is awesome. We didn't see too much of her in Shinkenger because she was only a means to an end, but there was so much potential in this character but there was just no time left in the season, and she really didn't fit into the movies as she relinquished her powers and heritage to Takeru when she adopted him. Kaoru was strong, talented, driven, and most importantly, she knew when to stop (unlike most red rangers).

Secondly, I already went through 50 episodes and two movies recently with the Shinkengers, and there's not much surprise left in their story, at least not for just a two-parter. If more time had passed and the actors allowed to age up, then you could have created any amount of back story for the current adventure and it would have worked. but, as it's only been a little over 7 months since they last gave an appearance (in the Goseiger VS movie), that saying it's been any amount of years is a little unbelievable. So, rather than do a story about the main team, we have the adorably stern little Kaoru and her manservant.

Finally, and the main reason why I was excited for her to show up, we the audience don't know what happened to her after she left the Shiba estate and her manservant (I really can't remember his name) tried talking her into finding a husband. The Shinkengers had 2 more battles (with Goseiger, and the Great War), lost their powers, and went back to an everyday life. The 18th head of the Shiba clan left out attentions at least a year prior to this, and hasn't been mentioned since. It was nice to see her scold Tanba (THAT'S HIS NAME! NOW I REMEMBER!) again, show more personality now that she has less responsibilities, and defend her former comrade's legacy as Super Sentai.

I won't share anymore details than that, but if you haven't seen episodes 11 and 12 of Gokaiger, you definitely should. Any fan of Shinkenger would find it a very nice nod to the series.

FIRST POST!

First blog post I've made anywhere since the advent of the medium. Man, that's sad.

In any case, here's my mission statement here. I will talk about what it's like being a Power Rangers fan as an adult with a job and a "million dollar family". While most of my peers teach skiing or soccer, or slave away trying to save up for a vacation to visit people they despise, I save up for collectibles and conventions. I will discuss seasons as I watch them with my kids, both Sentai and Power Rangers, and I will share my newly started collection.

I will also use this as a place to discuss various other things as I see fit, but right now, I can't think of what that might be.

For now, look forward to pics of my current collection this weekend! I am expecting 5 deliveries of swag, so huzzah!
